The short version
VogeRiders.net is a static website. We don't load any third-party analytics, don't set cookies, and don't store anything that could be linked back to you as an individual. We run a self-hosted analytics tool (Umami) under our own domain that records anonymous aggregate pageview data only - no IPs kept, no cookies, no cross-site tracking. The only personal data we ever see is what you explicitly send us by email.
What this site does and doesn't collect
What we don't collect
- No third-party analytics vendors. No Google Analytics, no Plausible cloud, no Matomo cloud, no Cloudflare Analytics. The only analytics tool we run is a self-hosted Umami instance served under
vogeriders.netitself - described below. - No cookies set by us. The site doesn't store anything in your browser between visits.
- No fingerprinting, ad networks, or third-party tracking scripts beyond what's listed in the "Third-party services" section.
- No user accounts, comments, or submitted forms. There's nowhere on the site to log in or post.
What we do log (server side)
The web server (nginx) writes standard HTTP access logs containing your IP address, the page you requested, the time, your user-agent string, and the referring page. These logs are kept locally on the server, rotated weekly, and discarded after a few weeks.
First-party analytics (self-hosted Umami)
We use a self-hosted instance of Umami - a free, open-source analytics tool - to understand which content readers actually engage with. Umami runs on the same server as this site, under the vogeriders.net domain. No third-party analytics vendor is involved.
What Umami records:
- The page you visited and the URL that brought you here (the referrer)
- Your approximate country and city, derived from your IP address by a local GeoIP database
- Your browser, operating system, and device type
- Anonymous session pageview counts within a single day
What Umami does NOT record:
- Your IP address (used briefly for geolocation, then discarded - not stored)
- Cookies of any kind
- Any data that would allow us to identify you across sessions or sites
- Any personally identifying information
The aggregated Umami dashboard is accessible only to the site operator from a specific IP. It exists to inform editorial decisions - which guides readers use, which models attract attention, where in the world traffic is coming from - and not to profile individual visitors.
If you'd prefer not to be counted at all, run a script-blocker that denies /internal/analytics/script.js on this domain. That's the only analytics script we load, and blocking it removes you from the dataset entirely.
Third-party services
Google Fonts
The Inter typeface is loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com). Loading a font triggers a request to Google's servers - they see your IP and user-agent. Google states they don't use this for tracking, but they're a third party and you should know.
AliExpress affiliate links
Some pages have affiliate links to AliExpress products. When you click one, AliExpress sets a tracking cookie on their domain so they can attribute a future purchase to this site. We don't read this cookie or get any personal data - we get an aggregated commission report ("X clicks, Y purchases") that doesn't identify individual users. Each affiliate link is clearly disclosed.
External links
We link to other sites (manufacturer pages, owner forums, regional distributors). We have no control over those sites' privacy practices.
Email correspondence
If you contact us at contact@vogeriders.net, we receive your email address and message contents. We use that to reply and, where you've shared something for publication (a tip, a firmware reading, a guide contribution), to credit and verify the contribution before publishing. We don't subscribe you to anything and don't share your email with third parties. We delete email after replying unless there's an ongoing thread.
Hosted PDFs
We host owner manuals and similar PDFs directly on this server so they don't disappear when official sites reorganize. Downloading a PDF is a normal HTTP request to this server - same logging as a page view, no extra tracking.
Children
The site is general motorcycle reference content. It's not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect any data from anyone (including minors).
Jurisdiction
The site is operated from Sweden. EU GDPR applies. Because we don't collect personal data in any meaningful sense - and because the aggregate analytics derive from logs and pageview events that exist for editorial and operational reasons - the practical compliance burden is minimal. If you have a GDPR-related question or want confirmation that we hold no data on you, email contact@vogeriders.net and we'll respond.

We'll update this page if anything material changes. The "Last updated" date at the top tracks the most recent edit.
